Style Icon: Jane Birkin

I've seen pictures of Jane before but for some reason she never stood put to me quite as much as she has recently when I was looking up style icon ideas.

She had such a natural beauty! But I love the simple makeup and hair. She knew what worked for her- lots of mascara on her doe eyes, tousled hair and the bangs (as a wearer of imperfect long bangs, I always appreciate the less perfectly groomed ones too).

But to the style. I love how she was usually very casual, but never boring or frumpy. She wore plain tees (I've been inspired to roll up my sleeves too) and jeans- always flared- everywhere. Modern fashion bloggers who turn up their little noses at not constantly dressing in high heels short shorts, or expensive blouses just for walking downtown. While it's usually better to be overdressed than underdressed, I see no need when I'm just taking the bus or doing some shopping, even if I were still in school.

She sometimes wore dresses but they were too short for me. Nice use of simple accessories, though, including the signature straw bag. Overall a great look for warm weather!

Product Review: Hard Candy Plumping Serum Lipstick

LOVE this! Definitely the best lipstick I've tried. Almost every other feels so dry on your lips, but this stuff just glides right on. I got mine in a bright, rosy shade. I'm not normally one to wear lip products, but I always wanted a good lipstick.

Pros: Easy application, good colors, stays on, good packaging.

Cons: None. Though you may wish to apply a bit of chapstick beforehand to ensure that it stays on if you're planning on drinking or eating anything, like with most lip products.

Style Inspiration: Princess Lili (Legend)

Legend is a visually beautiful movie. I understand why it flopped but I love it anyway. If you love classic fairy tale movies with true love and good triumphing over evil or hey, just great sets and costumes, this is the movie for you.

But yes, speaking of costumes... Could Princess Lili (Mia Sara) look any more like she stepped right out of a Grimm fairy tale?

Fine details with an interesting headpiece.
The ivory is perfect for a classic princess. Director Ridley Scott said she was inspired by the original Disney Princesses, Snow White in particular (good choice too). It's easy to see- she radiates a natural beauty, innocence, and grace, as befits a fantasy princess. The ivory plays up her innocent personality (but don't think she's perfect- she certainly had some hidden depths). The gold accents speak of her royal heritage. The ringlets are pretty and regal, especially when they've come down after the goblins kidnap her. Messy curls are great, what can I say?

Hard to see the shoes, but they appear to be red flats with some other light color. I'm not sure they're actually open-toed sandals as I'd originally thought.

Simple bead earrings that don't distract from the splendid details of the overall dress.
The makeup is also simple and clean: "natural", just touching up on undereye circles, as little as possible, with peachy lips and groomed eyebrows.

But let's not even get started at the hideous makeover the Lord of Darkness gives her.

They even got matching unibrows!
