Style: Keke Palmer

One of the most modest, sophisicated young actresses around in Hollywood, the star of Nickelodeon's TV show True Jackson VP (also grungy foster kid Nikki from Madea's Family Reunion), Keke Palmer, is truly a class act. Her style is self-described as "preppy and edgy, but more edgy", and never shows too much skin. I love her style! I adore preppy shoes and jackets like she does, and edgy dresses are the best; combine them all and you've got a great outfit. It's so good to see at least one star with class as well as good taste, especially for young audiences.

OK, I guess she isn't ALWAYS modest. It's very cute but it would look so much better long!

Inspired!

Today, my dad and I had another meeting with our youth pastor about some problems we've had together for awhile. Some of the discussions revolved around my getting a job. I've looked (not as much as I could have, I imagine) with not much hope. I want to become a makeup artist, and I've been thinking of how to get a part-time job related to beauty or makeup somehow. Most jobs related to makeup require experience and usually a degree, however. So I started thinking of how to build my portfolio and resume. I got inspired!

I've decided to start making some calls, fliers, and e-mails. I'm going to make fliers to put up at my church for free makeup done for any plays or shows of any kind being done- I would love to finally be able to give back to th epeople there, after all the times they've helped us when we were in need. Our head pastor's enthusiastic daughter is usually the main person who plans plays and activities for church, so I messaged her on Facebook, asking if they could ever use someone to do some makeup for those types of things.

Another flier will advertise a free makeup artist again- but for proms! Prom season is coming up, and the youth pastor's daughter is of Prom-age, as are, I assume, her friends. Most girls I knew who went to proms seemed to want to do their own makeup, but maybe that was just because they couldn't afford to pay a pro to do it for them. I'm no pro, but I like to study makeup, tools, skin types, even color analysis, so I should know at least a little more than most girls my age. It would also be a good way to meet more Christian girls and get an idea of how most people want their makeup done for fancies occasions as this, if I ever decide to open my own business.

For my senior project when I was back in high school, we had to pick the career of our choice, find a mentor who had that job or something very similar to it, spend a certain amoutn of hours with them learning about that career, and do a presentation with a tri-board explaining everything about it. It was fun! I was sort of an intern at Christina's & Co. Beauty School (the school for trainees for the actual spa of the same name). The girls were very nice, and I was glad to know I would get to learn other things that interested me, like how to give massages and expert skin care. I want to call Kelly Grey again, the head cosmetology instructor (the cosmetology course does the makeup/skin care/massages/nails, as opposed to the esthetics, that does hair and styling), and ask her for some tips on building a resume/portfolio, and maybe if I could intern there again. If not, I plan on trying the local beauty academy downtown, that mainly focuses on hair, but I wouldn't mind learning that too.

I've also decided to become a Youtube makeup guru! I think I'll wait till my skin clears up for this and do my best to do the styles near-perfectly, but if I get a lot of subscribers, this could seriously help my resume out. And, of course, there's this blog! I'll be commentating on celebrity style, hair, and makeup, offer words of encouragement and advice for both inner and outer beauty, and who knows what else.

I'm so excited to start! I don't think I've ever really be so involved in something like this, as I've never been interested in extracurricular activities at school (except for a very casual and enjoyable art club in 8th grade and when I tried volleyball in 6th... and it did not work out one bit). And plus, not only is this a good way to make friends and meet other people with shared interests... but who knows, I may meet a professional myself, or even someone who might be interested in hiring me later on!
